One of the Asrai objectives in the Nemesis Campaign is to bring Skarloc and his Scouts back into the Asrai fold, perhaps as a DoW unit we could reasonably use. This force has existed for a long time in WHFB, but wandered off into the Great Forest when the 6th edition came out.
How about us coming up with reasonable rules for this unit, that would be fluffy for our army to use. I consider Mengil Manhide and the Manflayers wrt Druchii, to be a good model for this unit.
Here are the original rules for Skarloc.
Skarloc 'The Hooded One' - Wood Elf Scout / Minor Hero
Skarloc has a runesword with runes of swiftness, armour and protection, and a long bow.
Glam, the Laughing Warrior - Wood Elf Scout / Wardancer
Glam is subject to frenzy. Because of his acrobatic skills, he receives an additional saving throw of 5 or 6 against any close combat hit
Kaia Stormwitch - Wood Elf Scout / Level 2 Wizard
Kaia carries the group's standard, which incorporates a heart-shaped casket holding the ashes of a legendary Elven Hero, Kern son of the goddess Torothal. It adds 2 points to the unit's Ld, rather than the usual 1. Her magical atame dagger can cast up to three Lightning Bolt spells per day.
Araflane Warskald - Wood Elf Scout / Musician
Araflane follows the normal rules for musicians. His great bronze horn causes fear in non-Elves; he may blow it once per turn, except when he is engaged in hand-to-hand combat. He is armed with a sword.
Trooper - Wood Elf Scout
Skarloc's Wood Elf Scouts conform to the rules set down for scouts.
The Beast's Horn
An old Wood Elf trick to scare off men and orcs was make horns that sound like a monsters cry.
The horn the Skarloc's musician carries is extremely well crafted, and to represent this any one wishing to charge Skarloc's Scouts must pass a psychology test or they may not move.
Runesword of Darkwood
Skarloc found this sword in the darkest part of the Loren wood. There are runes on that sword that even the oldest of the Wood Elf Mage Lords cannot decipher, one believes that the ancient race know as Zoats may have forged the weapon.
The weapon counts as a Great Weapon and it gives him the ability to strike first even if the enemy charges (in case of a he is fighting someone else that strikes first use initiative). The sword also has a -1 save modifier.
Heart Standard
The Heart in the Heart Standard is a casket that contains the ashes of the Wood Elf hero, Kern. He was believed to be the son of the elven goddess Torothal. Somehow, it ended up in the hands of the very corrupt Border Prince. The Border Prince was slain by Glam and they took the standard.
The spirit of Kern has a hardening affect on the scouts, which allows them to hold out against incredible odds. To represent this, Skarloc's Scouts always has greater unit strength then any unit they are fighting.
