Seminar - Anthony Reynolds
Another excellent seminar where Anthony showed us many photos of the new upcoming models for SOC including the new daemon prince, new orc shaman on boar and a whole host of other bits and pieces. Also up for show where the new 3up ogres, including some holding cannons as lead belchers and over 50 new nobbas have been sculpted. It may be a odd army, but the models sure do look good.Anthony then stood his ground (poor bloke) and stood by to answer the 101 questions that we had for him. The following info was gleamed:
Anthony has finished the first WE Draft list and is in the proceeds of looking at concept sketches and other bits and pieces for them. Release date has not been set but as the new 40K is set for October release, it won't be until February 2005 at the earliest.
There is no plans for Chaos Dwarf list at present although they are not to be written out. The same goes for DOW.
7th Edition Warhammer ideas are being brought together which will be the next big thing after WE. The new edition will not change any of the current Warhammer books.
New ideas include further small books like Kislev, possible allies list and a whole host of future scenarios
The new slayer list will essentially use the Warmaster idea for VP. Basically if you kill the slayer, the Dwarf player gets the VP for them. Interestingly, if the slayer dies fighting tougher opponents, you get more victory points. E.g. if slayer died in combat with the Dragon, more VP would be earned then dieing against a Elf.
Afterwards I was able to grab a few minutes with Anthony to ask if I could get any more slayer list information but he was unable to give me any more details. However I was able to gleam that a minor change has been made and that 80% of the new Storm of Chaos troops and new rules will be useable with the current lists. Up to now, I have been under the impression that say, the hell cannon would be SOC list only, but now it would seem that it will be able to be taken in any chaos list but would cost a large amount of points. Interesting the slannesh list of DE has some new magic items which normal DE list will get access too. However things like the Slayers fanatics will not be allowed out of the SOC list into the normal Dwarf list.
Anthony also talked about redoing the skaven book and VC book so that the skaven list is not so horrible unbalanced (as now accepted by everyone in GW) and to give the VC book some proper character so that a strogi list looks different to von castien list which looks different to a lahmia list.
Anthony is a great bloke, is always up for talking and mulling over Warhammer and I am glad that he wants to iron out the few minor flaws that Warhammer has.
.....
More talks with Anthony
I was able to chat quite a bit on Anthony on Sunday and we discussed the GT and what they plan to do next year. Next year 3 heats and no payment for the final is on the cards for a trail and Anthony plans to bring in some random scenarios. Basically one that reduces magic, one that reduces movement and one that reduces shooting. Hopefully he hopes that players will think more about these 3 games and use lists which are not over powered and more balanced *cough* SAD armies *cough*. Its a shame that Anthony feels he can no longer play in GTs due to the way players would treat him, but its good to see a designer taking note of what happens at GTs and plans to help Armies that have problems.
I pointed out many unfair bits in Warhammer and Anthony talked about changing the way shooting works so you could have volley fire and to change and clarify the way combat works. Also magic will get re-worked. Its generally excepted by the GW team that magic is not what it should be and Anthony even revealed that he like the old card system (woohoo) but could not bring it back due to the cost of translating the cards (hell I would do it for free if they asked) so the next editions magic, whilst would still keep with the dice system will see power dice being randomly rolled up so that the amount of magic is not dependant on the number of wizards you bring. This can only be seen as a good thing IMHO and hopefully will put an end to the stupid amounts of power dice and scroll caddies you see out there.
I also mentioned how corrupt sportsmanship was
