  • I am still alive, but time got very rare lately...


    Finally its Christmas time and I get to relax a little. Plenty time to read battle reports, enjoy the hobby and eat, eat and eat even more :D


    Although I do not comment a lot, I still enjoy your reports a lot. Particular in phase where I do not find time to play myself I enjoy to participate the hobby passively by reading your reports ;)

  • After a break due to time shortage, I read your battle reports of the last months yesterday. And once again they were just brilliant and I had a lot of fun reading them. I like the idea of the animation of the turn summary. That summarizes the whole tactical approach quite well.


    And of course, congratulations to your successful tournament! These seem to have been fun games - excluding this horrible dwellers spam from the Bretonians... that is a tough one, although very well played by your opponent and a deserved victory. Thanks and looking forward for more!

    Thanks a lot for kind words! I am very glad to know that little additions I have in the reports are considered as improvements. Yes, the games were in general very enjoyable and the one against Brets was my favorite despite me failing the strength tests :) I am also happy for my opponent because he got his revenge! Now I need to think about something totally different in case we meet again :)


    I wish I had more time to play games these days as tournaments are the only opportunity now and even these not always. There are many events organized but there are also other things I need to attend to. However, good news is I am going for a 3 day tournament by the end of January and that means 8 games!


    Just be patient as I might be hard pressed to post anything until mid-February. Of course I will do my best to do so anyway!

    Last weekend I attended probably the biggest tournament here in Australia, CanCon. It lasts 3 days, you play 8 games and there were 120 players from all over the country (which means a lot when you consider distances some players traveled to attend!).     What a pity with your bad decision, and what a huge Impact on the game! It's really interesting how you still played to a draw, very impressive! Also, your enemy should have moved to your left flank more consequently, so I guess it was a mix of bad luck, skill and luck that made that game so interesting ;)

    Isn't amazing how things can change and how dramatic consequences one bad decision can have? Almost like in real life :D


    The bright side of the game is that this turned it upside down and that my opponent had his moment of glory too. He moved to his next game in great mood and I am happy for that as I care how my opponents enjoy our games. Sure, I am ashamed I made such a stupid move but situations like that motivate me in the longer run to try and play better. While it is hard to learn from such mistakes during the same tournament (but it is still possible!) I like to think it stick after the event.


    And others can learn from them too, without suffering in their own games! Perfect! :)

  • Yo Swordi:-),intresting Report the Anointed is hard for the Msu-list so fast and quikly.But i think The Tiranoc Charris is a bit Crap for the cost,the Flying Sky-Cutter is a bit better.So GL&HF for the next games i hope we can make the Msu game this year.

    Well, I know that people simply don't use the chariots that much in HE armies. I guess there is uncharted territory to explore! They might be difficult to use but at the same time if Orcs and Goblins can use them to great effect why can't we? :P


    I am sure we will get the game as I haven't forgotten about you guys. Trust me, if it was just me I would have dedicated more time to the games!

  • So.. I am pretty Noob, but the MSU principle intigues me.


    Did get this right: MSU stands and falls with a working Hammer and Anvil taktic.


    Anyway if this applies, I am still a bit unaware of the several units roles in the game... i.e. I am pretty shure the Sword masters are a hammer. A glasshammer maybe but still a hammer.
    Anvils should be anything tough or cheap enough to stick an enemy unit in place for a few turns. I usually use my Spearmen for that (30 men... not a SU though).


    Could somebody please wrap up pretty quick how the units are used best?


    e.g. I am a bit unsure whether WL work as a hammer, heard they hit hard, or as an anvil (stuborn). Same with Phoenix Guard: Hammer (reroll to Hit) or Anvil (5+/5++)?


    Help would be highly appreciated.

    In short, MSU idea is about using superior force on an isolated enemy (be it unit, character, monster etc.) to inflict enough damage in relatively short time to break and/or destroy the enemy. It uses the fact that it has many units to control the movement phase to engineer multiple charges from many directions, preferably avoiding frontal attacks, to maximize the chances of success.


    Because of that I prefer to allocate units to at least two groups: assault units and support units. Assault units are those who have high strength attacks, high weapon skill and can concentrate these attacks on relatively small frontage. In my current army these are Swordmasters, Lions, Dragon Princes and combat orientated characters.


    Support units have very important role of delaying enemy units, destroying its support with shooting or in combat, basically, helping your assault troops not to be interrupted in their jobs. So reavers, archers, eagles, bolt throwers, they all have a lot to do to help control movement phase.


    Sometimes the roles are not so easily separated. I often use Archers in combat because they provide ranks and can break steadfast and against lightly armored foes they can kill things too. Reavers can easier get to the flanks and their S4 on the charge may help. White Lions, on the other hand, due to their stubbornness can hold enemy regiment for a while (although they are too small for an anvil here) and potentially every unit can be sacrificed so that I can surround the enemy and execute that charge from many directions.
